Lake DuBay Lions Activities and Projects

The Lake DuBay Lions support and are involved in a number of community activities and projects as well as helping to support various zone and district projects, the Lions Camp in Rosholt, and International efforts.

Lions Park

The Lions Park in Knowlton is likely one of the most visible and significant community efforts of the club. The park is maintained and upgraded as the club sees fit for the enjoyment of the community. Amenities such as shelter buildings, playground, fishing pier, picnic areas, volleyball courts, pickleball courts, kayak launch and a basketball court provide many opportunities for the community to enjoy some relaxing time on Lake DuBay. We also maintain a schedule of park reservations for larger groups wishing to use the shelters for various events and gatherings throughout the year.

Lake Marker Buoys

The Lions club places channel marker buoys, marking the main Wisconsin River channel thorough Lake DuBay, each spring following the high flows associated with the spring run-off. These markers serve as a guide to many boaters navigating the channel while avoiding the shallows and stump fields. The markers are normally removed in mid-October.

Highway Clean-up

Twice each year the club meets to clean up the roadside in our area. We cover Highway DB from Highway 34 on the north to the Portage County line on the south.

Deer Hide Collection

As part of a statewide Lions project, Deer Hides are collected from November through mid-December. The hides are then sold with all proceeds going to the Lions Camp in Rosholt for children and adults.

Sign Board

A sign board for announcing community activities in the area is maintained near St. Francis Xavier church. Any community organization may ask to post their upcoming events or messages.

Sight & Hearing

Being the center of Lions International efforts, programs and funding of efforts for sight and hearing projects are a regular part of our mission. From international efforts to prevent blindness to funding eyeglasses for the needy in the area, from Eye Bank support to transport of eye cornea tissue to and from local hospitals, the club is very engaged in the promotion of improved sight.

Scholarships

The Lake DuBay Lions are proud to be able to donate several scholarships to local youth going on to further their education. A screening committee reviews the many fine applications each year then presents them in person as possible during local awards programs.

Other Projects

The Lions also get involved with many other community projects as well as responding to various requests as they are made aware. Mosinee Little League, Leader Dog programs, donations to several Food Pantries and semi-annual Blood Drives are just a few of the regular community projects we currently help to sponsor.
